Due to the positive response I've had (both in the comments and via various other forms of communication) I have another abstract piece for you today. This is one I painted a few years back when I was working with autistic children. I've always felt like I have autistic tendencies myself and working with autistic children really brought this home to me in a very real way. I drew this piece in oil pastels when I was feeling quite strongly about this and decided to let the part of me that I often, only half-jokingly, refer to as my 'autistic' side guide me:
After doing this drawing, I decided to do another version of the image on a box canvas in acrylic paint. I just felt the colours needed to be bolder and brighter than I could achieve with oil pastels. This is the result:
I really liked the result of this process (I called the piece 'Autistic Tendencies') and this is still one of my favourites, as far as my own work is concerned. I just think it has a vitality that jumps off the wall at you. As for the 'meaning' behind the image... well, I think I'll let people interpret it in their own way.
